Support for the Development of Scientific Research Personnel

The Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation funds 17 program activities with an aim of stimulating and enhancing the development of personnel who are engaged in scientific research. These activities are defined within five separate four-year programs and a public call for the implementation thereof is announced annually.

The Program for stimulating and providing scholarships to young and talented individuals for scientific research aims to develop a young researchers pool and prevent the outflow of scientific professionals from the Republic of Serbia developmental capacities. The Ministry has been providing scholarships for 200 new students since 2000 and it continues to support approximately 350 doctoral academic students annually. These students actively participate in the work of accredited scientific research organizations, including institutes and faculties. This program is a tool through which the Ministry also awards scholarships to up to 20 young researchers – high school seniors who have won one of the top three places in international knowledge Olympiad, and the scholarship support for these students continues until the completion of master's academic studies.

Scholarship financially supports a range of activities related to their studies and professional development as well, such as scientific conferences participation in the country and abroad, study visits abroad (for master's and doctoral students and Ministry scholarship holders), as well as the costs of application, finalization, and defense of doctoral thesis.

Through the implementation of the Program for Personnel Development for Scientific Research, the Ministry continues to monitor and encourage the development of scientific personnel by supporting the knowledge acquisition through direct exchange of scientific information and achievements. It also promotes the international level of scientific collaboration, participation in scientific conferences, postdoctoral training, and co-funding the stay of foreign scientists in the Republic of Serbia.

By implementing the Program for the Acquisition of Foreign Scientific Literature and Electronic Databases Access, the Ministry enables our scholarship holders and scientists to access the latest scientific results in all scientific fields and relevant scientific and professional literature.

Furthermore, through the Program for the Publication of Scientific Publications and the Scientific Conferences Organization, the scientific research presentation is being supported by publishing results in domestic scientific journals, monographic scientific works, and presentations at scientific conferences in the country. The Program also involves scientific and professional societies from Serbia in international scientific associations/organizations, which contributes to the increase of the general knowledge fund and applicability of the obtained scientific results in all scientific fields.

The co-funding Program for scientific-educational centers, specialized organizations and associations involved in additional education and training of talented pupils and students for scientific research through numerous seminars, camps and workshops, led by the best educational and scientific professionals from Serbia and abroad, enables young researchers to get acquainted with the scientific research methodology, with the scientific and technological heritage, the latest achievements in science in an appropriate way and motivates them to engage in further scientific research.
