More than 180 Serbian scientists and researchers attended a masterclass of the prestigious scientific journal Nature at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, under the auspices of BIO4 Campus
The topic of the masterclass was the communication of science and scientific results to the public, and the Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation, Dr. Jelena Begović, addressed the attendees at the beginning of this all-day workshop.
"The ability to clearly and effectively convey our scientific findings is not just a matter of spreading knowledge; it has the power to change lives, shape public policies, and inspire future generations," emphasized Dr. Begović. "Our work, no matter how revolutionary, can only have a real impact if it reaches people who can benefit from it. The public's understanding of the value of science is crucial today, perhaps more than ever, especially in a world often flooded with misinformation and doubts," she stated.
The Minister stated that this workshop, led by the expert Dr. Jeffrey Robbens of the scientific journal Nature, is a wonderful opportunity for scientists to improve those skills and learn how to tell the story of their science in a way that will resonate with a wider audience. "Whether through the media, public platforms, or direct engagement in society, science communication is not just about translating data into words - it's about conveying the excitement, possibilities, and human impact of what we do," said Dr. Begović.
"We should be proud of our scientific community. The Minister noted that we possess brilliant minds and researchers capable of making a significant contribution to the global scientific scene. Moreover, the Minister added that Dr. Robbens' masterclass will enhance the visibility of our researchers on the global stage, ensuring Serbia's continued recognition for its innovation, dedication to science, and visionary approach.
"Let's use this opportunity to strengthen not only our knowledge but also our voices, and let the world hear about the exceptional science that we are creating here," stated the Minister.
